Tina Braegger

Born in 1985.

Tina Braegger is a painter whose work examines the notions of originality, reproduction, and authenticity by employing repetition and difference as working methods.

A recurring motif—the “bear”—occupies the position of a “structuring logic” in her work: it serves as a formal anchor that makes it possible to “follow the same set of rules” while exploring a varied catalogue of painterly styles. Her attention to reproduction and difference is evident in both the method and the materiality of the paintings, where systematic variations produce perceptible divergences between related works.

This approach has taken concrete forms, such as in the series shown in Seoul in 2024—It’s Not Looking Good for You—comprising sixteen small paintings conceived as variations on the structure of chess pieces.

Among her recent solo exhibitions, Braegger presented One Million Bears at Museum im Bellpark (Kriens, 2025) and Selected works at Société (Berlin, 2024), while other recent shows include The Dream Relatives at Meredith Rosen Gallery (New York, 2025) and Only One of Us Is Real at Weiss Falk (Basel, 2024). Her practice has also been shown in earlier or group contexts, including the two-part presentation Curiosity Killed the Cat (de 11 Lijnen, Belgium, 2021) and an exhibition at Neuer Essener Kunstverein (2022).

Braegger’s works also feature in programmes at institutions and in collections: they have been exhibited at venues including Kunsthalle Bern, Luma Westbau (Zurich), Astrup Fearnley (Oslo), Istituto Svizzero di Roma, Kunstmuseum St. Gallen, Fondation Ricard (Paris), and Institute of Contemporary Art (Philadelphia), and were included in New Acquisition II (Hildebrand Collection) at G2 Kunsthalle, Leipzig (2023). Museum im Bellpark, which is devoting her first institutional exhibition in Switzerland to her with One Million Bears, follows an earlier collaboration with the artist as part of the group exhibition After Bob Ross. Beauty is everywhere (2021).

Recent titles include dated individual works such as Crying Like a Fire in the Sun (2026), oil on canvas, 120 × 85 × 2 cm.
