Theo Eble
Born in 1899.
Died in 1974.
He initially trained at the Kunstgewerbeschule (Allgemeine Gewerbeschule) in Basel, before continuing his studies at the Academy of Arts in Berlin.
One source dates his attendance at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Basel to between 1915 and 1920. His Berlin studies are given as taking place during the period 1922–1925, and Karl Hofer is named as one of his teachers there.
In 1925, he married the painter Julia Ris and returned to Switzerland, as noted in the biographical entry consulted.
Theo Eble’s artistic production is described as belonging to an abstraction close to Constructivism, with references to Lazar Lissitzky appearing in the formulations found.
His legacy is represented both on the art market — auction databases list several dozen lots attributed to his name — and in Larousse-type reference works and authority records; a recent monographic exhibition was devoted to him at Galerie Mueller (Tanz der Kobolde, listed for 13.02.–11.04.2026).
