Sylvère Rebetez is a self-taught painter closely associated with the Franches-Montagnes. Trained in precision mechanics, he pursues several occupations before devoting himself entirely to painting in 1974. His studio occupies the former school in Lajoux, which he acquired in 1966.
Alongside Jura landscapes, his subjects draw on travel, music and communal life. He works first in oils and later in acrylics, allowing feeling and atmosphere to shape his representation of the world. The municipality of Lajoux highlights this position between figurative and abstract painting.
