Stéphane Ducret
Stéphane Ducret is an artist, professor and exhibition curator. The distinctive nature of his practice lies in a reflective revisiting of images from the artistic heritage and in his engagement with the notion of the collection, visible in several series that bring together the artist’s portrait and the staging of masterpieces. He began Masterpiece Redux in 2005 and resumed this exploration of the old masters with Real Estate, begun in 2017.
Launched in 2023, the series My Own Private Museum stages a personal “collection” of paintings and artists’ portraits, raising the question of the creator’s identity.
Begun in 2024, Times Suspended shifts the viewpoint towards aerial views—aircraft windows—and a reflection on the suspension of time. His most recent production was shown in the exhibition 5 + 5 = Y, which presented a first display of the series Brain Matters in 2026.
His work has been exhibited in a range of institutions, including the Bronx Museum of the Arts (New York), the Fondation de l’Hermitage (Lausanne), the Centro Cultural Borges (Buenos Aires), the Centre PasquArt (Biel), and Artists Space (New York). Recipient of the Bourse Leenaards in 2003, he also founded two galleries—one in New York and the other in Geneva—and is active in teaching and curatorial work.
In his teaching, the REAL/FAKE (ART CLASSE) workshops combine the contextualisation of contemporary works with the learning of painting techniques, following a pedagogy that sets theory and practice in dialogue.
