Stephan Allenbach is recognised for his work as a decorator and sign painter. He was also active as a church restorer and poet. Allenbach left his mark on the artistic landscape of the Simmental, where he succeeded Jakob Hutzli as a façade painter.
His œuvre bears witness to a period in which the art of decoration and the restoration of religious buildings were of considerable importance, although the precise details of his work remain partly uncertain.
