Rudolf Dikenmann is recognised for his work as a watercolourist. After being employed by Orell Füssli around 1820, he founded his own publishing house specialising in copperplate and steel engraving, devoting himself to the publication of coloured views of Switzerland and depictions of traditional costumes. He belonged to the Dikenmann family of artists and was the father of Anna, Johann Caspar, Johann-Rudolf and Louise, who also participated in the family enterprise.
