Robert Baumberger
Born in 1895.
Died in 1986.
His professional training began with an apprenticeship as a lithographer in Zürich, which he completed from 1911 to 1914.
After his apprenticeship, he worked in various locations, began an established career as a painter and graphic artist in 1928, and, in parallel, attended evening classes at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Bern from 1923 to 1933, where he practised drawing from the nude, among other subjects.
The sources that mention him describe an oeuvre centred on painting and printmaking, with subjects including landscapes, still lifes, portraits and figures.
Documented stages in his career include study trips to Italy in 1948 and to France in 1950–1951.
Baumberger’s presence in reference works is reflected in an entry by Dankmar Trier in the Allgemeines Künstlerlexikon (AKL), a mention in the Biografisches Lexikon der Schweizer Kunst and a record listed in SIKART (identifier 4001777).
