Peter Sigrist
Born in 1937.
Died in 2005.
Swiss painter, draughtsman and printmaker Peter Sigrist (Lucerne, 9 January 1937 – Niederwil, 31 October 2005) pursued a career spanning Switzerland and Catalonia. His practice encompassed painting, etching and lithography.
Inés Padrosa Gorgot’s Diccionari biogràfic de l’Alt Empordà records studies in art and architecture, followed by two years in Mexico and a move to Barcelona. It also places the artist in Ordis, Cabanes and Fortià.
From 1964, he lived in Ximelis, Rubí. Historian Eduard Puigventós describes him as an abstract painter and recounts his friendship with Josep Maria Roset and Juan José Torralba. The three artists exhibited together at the Marister gallery.
In Switzerland, the Kunstmuseum Luzern devoted a solo exhibition to him from 8 December 1968 to 12 January 1969. The Swiss Literary Archives also hold a letter sent to Walter Matthias Diggelmann from Ordis in 1976.
In November 1995, Galerie Sandra Hunt presented the portfolio Genève mon Amour in Geneva: six signed lithographs depicting the city. Issued in an edition of 125, it was printed at Artistic Litho S.L. in Barcelona in collaboration with Torralba.
His work also appears in auction catalogues: on 29 June 2024, Galerie Moenius offered Vita Somnium Breve Est in Muri as lot 555. Signed and dated “76”, this oil painting on canvas measures 96.5 × 130 cm.
