Nicolaus Lawelin

Born in 1408.

Died in 1453.

Nicolaus Lawelin was a painter whose activity was primarily associated with religious painting and mural painting. He may have originated from Tübingen. In 1408, he is documented as having carried out gilding work at the Spalentor in Basel.

His presence in Basel is confirmed by the payment of taxes in 1446. At his death in 1453, his wife is mentioned as a widow, indicating that he left a mark on the artistic landscape of his time, although few precise details of his work have survived.
