The Merian family, active between the seventeenth century and the beginning of the eighteenth century, distinguished itself in the fields of painting, printmaking and publishing. Established in Germany and the Netherlands, it played a significant role in the artistic landscape of its time. In Frankfurt am Main, this lineage founded an important publishing workshop specialising in the publication of illustrated works characteristic of the Baroque period.
Although the precise details of their production remain partly uncertain, their contribution to book illustration attests to a notable commitment to the art and culture of this period.
