Max Crausaz
Born in 1885.
Died in 1969.
The painter and illustrator Max Crausaz (1885–1969) is distinguished in particular by his practice of drawing with a pen. The catalogue entries also document a body of painted work, described in several cases as oils on board or on canvas.
Among the works listed under his name is Baignade devant la colonnade, an oil on board signed and dated 1919 on the verso. Mönch & Jungfrau, vue de Lauterbrunnen, also an oil on board and dated 1930, is instead recorded as attributed to Crausaz. Other lot entries list Le Salève and Encore une goutte, oils on canvas, as well as Granges de l’hôpital au Bourg-de-Four, likewise described as an oil on canvas.
These titles attest to a variety of subjects, from landscapes to scenes and motifs evoked by their titles, but are not in themselves sufficient to establish the circumstances of creation or the attribution status of each work.
