Mario Masini
Born in 1943.
Swiss painter, printmaker and visual artist Mario Masini has developed a practice in which painting incorporates materials and printed or photographic elements. His paintings often combine sand, charcoal, ash and pigments with pasted manuscripts, poetic texts or photographs. Geometry and forms of memory — collective or selective — are among the themes explicitly present in his work.
Alongside painting on canvas, his practice includes aquatint, monotype and the artist’s book; he also produces print editions and multiples.
His training took shape mainly outside art schools, through experience, books and encounters with other craftspeople. Since 1973, he has devoted most of his time to artistic creation and has been a member of Visarte; he is also listed as a member of the Société des Peintres, Sculpteurs et Architectes Suisses. He lives and works mainly in Prilly, in the canton of Vaud, and taught visual arts for several years.
His biography records regular exhibitions in Switzerland and abroad. Those noted include «Trajectoire», presented in 2009 at Espace L.A.0 in Vevey and covering the period 1999–2009, and «Travaux récents», at La Grange in Lausanne-Dorigny in 2010. In 2013, he exhibited at Galerie ERGASIA, in Prilly and Lausanne, as well as at Mazzoleni Art Gallery in Bergamo.
