Swiss · Figurative painting: marine subjects, landscapes and still lifes
Marguerite Emilie Ackermann (Zug, 5 August 1900 – Bad Ragaz, 1 April 1990) was a Swiss painter of marine subjects, landscapes and still lifes. The Biografisches Lexikon der Schweizer Kunst and heritage resources from Zug record her under her full name.
Her training with Wartan Mahokian illuminates her interest in the sea. In Bernhard Langer’s profile of 1977, the Armenian painter appears as a teacher of her youth who deepened her attention to sun, light and horizon on the Côte d’Azur. A provenance note in Schuler’s December 2012 catalogue states that she was his pupil for four years and owned several of his paintings.
Langer presents her as the “Malerin des Meeres”, painter of the sea. Her journeys took her to northern coasts, particularly the Lofoten Islands, where she observed cliffs, seabirds and atmospheric light. The article connects this northern experience with her Mediterranean sensibility and stresses her attachment to silence, contemplation and landscape preservation.
Her work extends beyond seascapes: the Terra Plana article also reproduces landscapes of the Rhine near Bad Ragaz and the Sarganserland. These views connect her observation of distant horizons with that of her Swiss surroundings. The 1977 study, preserved by the Stiftung Ragaziana, is a central bibliographic reference.
Two older Ricardo listings document signed paintings depicting breaking waves and fishing boats by moonlight. They are records of secondary-market circulation, not auction results confirmed by an auction house.
