Marcus Jacobi
Born in 1891.
Died in 1969.
Marcus Jacobi (1891–1969) was a Swiss painter associated with the Biel region. The NMB New Museum Biel lists him among the artists represented in its regional collection, which brings together, in particular, works relating to the landscapes of the Jura and the Seeland. Two paintings are also recorded in the inventory of the Confederation’s Art Collections.
Gunten, dated before 1920, is held at the Swiss representation in Kuwait; Nachtpatrouille, dated 1939, is located at the Collections Centre in Bern. These titles attest to Jacobi’s presence in public collections and offer two reference points within his activity as a painter. The NMB places his name within a group of regional artists whose works evoke Swiss landscapes, while the federal inventory also documents a nocturnal subject.
Taken together, these references attest to the diversity of the catalogued works and to Jacobi’s rootedness in Swiss heritage collections.
