Marc Batalla

Born in 1973.

According to the introductory text for the exhibition « Traces », Marc Batalla presents a practice centred on egg paintings attributed to his studio, essentially depicting views and perspectives of this workspace. The studio is described as being located in a basement and lacking any view outside, a condition which, according to the same document, made it the recurrent and principal subject of his compositions. These works are evoked as stagings awaiting a protagonist, in which the motif of the studio recurs from a variety of angles.

His painterly approach is characterised by an emphasis on variations in format and viewpoint, accompanying the use of tempera (egg painting) in the works presented. Formats and viewpoints succeed one another without strict repetition: detail, section and perspective serve to transform everyday objects into elements of an organised composition. The pictorial language developed in these canvases thus shifts the commonplace into assemblages in which forms and colours establish a geometry specific to each image.

The GND record lists Marc Batalla as « Maler | Künstler », that is, painter / artist. The country coding in the same record reads « Spanien | Schweiz », presenting national affiliations without further specification as to civil status or principal place of activity.
