Ludwig Bottschuch der Ältere

Born in 1478.

Died in 1518.

Ludwig Bottschuch the Elder is recognised for his activity as a painter of icons and letters. In 1478, he was admitted to Basel’s Safranzunft, a guild of artisans. His oeuvre probably includes a woodcut inspired by the comedies of Terence, made in Basel, as well as a 32-leaf calendar produced in Nuremberg.

The details of his career and creations remain partly uncertain, leaving room for interpretation and further exploration of his influence in the artistic milieu of his time.
