Louis Cuttat

Born in 1847.

Died in 1932.

Louis Cuttat presents himself as a long-established optician: he states that he ran his shop for 32 years and began his training as an optician at the age of 17. Before opening his business, he says, he mapped the region’s opticians while taking population figures into account and, having identified a gap in Versoix, set up shop “at the station ramp”.

He describes the relationship between opticians and ophthalmologists as complementary: the ophthalmologist provides treatment, while the optician, with knowledge of the physiology and anatomy of the eye, carries out eyesight examinations and undertakes a technical activity. He notes an evolution in the profession, observing that customers today are more price-oriented than in the past.

Upon his retirement, he states that he left the shop to the Swiss brand Berdoz; Benoit Bohn will take over its management, together with his long-standing colleague Olivier Kolly. He envisages devoting his free time to personal pursuits: long walks, gardening, Tai Chi, improving his language skills, and reading.

The local editorial team thanks Louis Cuttat for his regular advertising support, describing him as “the most faithful of our advertisers”.
