Loredana Sperini

Born in 1970.

Loredana Sperini lives and works in Berlin; she is presented through her small sculptures constructed from fragments of broken porcelain, a technique central to the way her work is viewed.

The article reports that these fragments may come from pieces “possibly bombed” and situates this practice in a local context: around Berlin, remnants of the Second World War are said to remain, which people search through in order to extract objects and/or materials.

The works were presented at the Freymond-Guth Fine Arts booth at the Independent fair, and the interest of the gallerist Jean-Claude Freymond-Guth is mentioned as having helped to clarify, for the critic, the technique and background of the works on display.

The critical text considers that these miniature sculptures acquire, once the material and technique are understood, a marked emotional and historical weight.
