Katja Dormann-Alexandrow

Born in 1948.

She practised as a physician/psychiatrist from 1974 to 2012. In public life, she served as a member of the cantonal parliament (Grossrätin) of Basel from 1988 to 1999.

Alongside her professional activity, she undertook continuous artistic training at SfG Basel between 2003 and 2015, focused on drawing and painting and including references to the teachers A. Kowalski, H. Germer, and Claudia Roth.

From 2003 to 2014, she also attended courses in figurative drawing and portraiture with Cornelia Ziegler in Basel. The dates recorded in the sources indicate an overlap between her medical practice (1974–2012) and her artistic studies (2003–2015), a useful observation for situating this training within her career trajectory.

Several dated works are included in the file, notably the 2018 works ‘Loslegen’ (60 × 60 cm) and ‘Sein und Zeit’ (40 × 50 cm), listed as acrylic on canvas. Other paintings from 2018 mentioned are ‘Ritt 4’ (80 × 80 cm) and ‘Eilende 2’ (60 × 80 cm), likewise executed in acrylic on canvas. The available technical information for these works concerns the support (canvas), the material (acrylic), and the dimensions stated in the catalogue records.

The artist’s public practice is reflected in a series of solo exhibitions listed between 2008 and 2019, including presentations at the Internationaler Lyceum-Club (Basel), Trotte Arlesheim, and Kulturforum Laufen. She also took part in group exhibitions recorded from 2012 to 2019, including ArtWORKS (Liestal) and Galerie Burgwerk (Riehen). The lists provided in the file are described as selections and offer an overview of exhibition activity during the period 2008–2019.

The contact address given in the documentation is Austrasse 38, 4051 Basel. This notice brings together and presents the documented facts selected from the file consulted.
