Kathy Thys
Born in 1936.
Kathy Thys is documented primarily through auction records; several records associate her with the designation “Bern 1936”, while some indicate that her real name appears as THYS‑BILL, Susi.
The SIKART dossier (identifier 4006727) describes a practice centred on painting, specifying the predominant use of watercolour and tempera. The auction and commercial records, however, document numerous oil paintings on canvas signed “Kathy Thys”, often located at the lower right, in small and medium formats (e.g. 35x24 cm, 40x27 cm, 80x120 cm).
One dated example noted on the reverse is a canvas entitled “Haute Provence”, dated 1990 (Schuler Auktionen).
The recurring subjects identified in the records include summer and winter landscapes, village scenes, figures (for example, “Mädchen auf dem Karussell”), and still lifes (titles mentioned: “Reifendes Feld (bei Veltheim)”, “Winterlandschaft”, “Blumenstrauss”).
Several canvases bear labels on the reverse indicating the title and, in some cases, the date; the practice of signing at the lower right is also frequently noted in the descriptions.
The documentary and commercial market is largely concentrated in Switzerland: firms such as Schuler Auktionen, Auktionshaus Eppli and Dobiaschofsky Auktionen AG appear among the recurring sellers, with some listings in Germany and rare occurrences in the United States.
For research and verification, the principal references available in the dossier are the SIKART entry (ID 4006727) and the numerous sale records and catalogues of the auction houses mentioned above.
