Karl Madritsch
Born in 1908.
Died in 1986.
Trained as an interior architect, he developed a varied painting practice: landscapes, still lifes and figurative compositions are explicitly cited among his preferred genres.
His travels included regular stays in Paris, as attested by biographical sources. Among the documented works is an oil on canvas entitled Ausblick aus Pariser Wohnung mit Stillleben, measuring 101 × 85 cm, presented as part of an exhibition by Galleria il Tesoro. The conjunction of training in interior architecture and subjects such as a view from a Paris apartment combined with the motif of the still life allows us to discern, in the known works, an attention to interiors and their staging.
Institutionally, he received an Eidgenössisches Kunststipendium in 1947 and 1948 and was awarded study grants/werkbeiträge by the Canton of Zurich on several occasions (1956, 1965, 1972).
He was a member of the GSMBA and took part in numerous group exhibitions, placing his activity at the heart of the local exhibition networks of his time.
The information gathered — his Zurich origins, professional training, genres explored, stays in Paris, public support and presence in group exhibitions — forms the profile of an artist active in the mid-twentieth century, whose imprint can be found both in small- and medium-format works, such as the oil painting presented by the gallery, and in a career marked by institutional support.
