Kady Hoffman
Born in 1949.
American · Contemporary abstraction · gestural painting and drawing within the Los Angeles art scene.
Kady Hoffman is an American painter associated with the Los Angeles art scene and with abstract painting. Her background combines fine-art study at the Otis Art Institute with studies in early-childhood development and education at UCLA, bringing together her work as an artist and as an educator.
In 1982, the Los Angeles Institute of Contemporary Art presented an exhibition devoted to her work, recorded in its archival holdings. Two years later, LACE included an installation of large gestural black-and-white paintings and drawings, selected by Lita Albuquerque, in its Artists Presents programme.
Her practice develops an abstract language in which drawing, painting, and graphic sign converge. A 1986 review described translucent white canvases containing the outlines of letters and numbers, pointing to an interest in visual structures that remain both suggestive and open-ended.
Alongside her studio practice, Hoffman has maintained a sustained commitment to arts education in Los Angeles, including work connected with programmes at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Getty. So Be It, presented by Swiss Art Gallery, belongs to this body of work.
The works by Kady Hoffman presented by Swiss Art Gallery extend this artistic journey and take their place naturally within this corpus.
