Julius Sulzer was an artist recognised for his skills in portraiture and history painting. The son of David Sulzer, his life was marked in 1858 by his adoption by General Alexander Wilhelm von Kahlenberg, after which he took his name. This transition may have influenced his artistic career, although details of his oeuvre remain partly obscure.
