Julius Bissier

Julius Bissier (1893–1965). He attended brief courses at the Institute of Art History in Freiburg im Breisgau and then began studying at the Karlsruhe Academy of Fine Arts, interrupting his studies after a few months. His early public activity included a first solo exhibition in 1920 at the Kunstverein Freiburg im Breisgau.

His international visibility subsequently emerged through significant participations and presentations: participation in the VI São Paulo Biennial in 1961 and a retrospective at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston in 1963.

From 1957 onwards, recurring stays in Ticino (Ronco sopra Ascona) and documented connections with artists such as Jean Arp, Mark Tobey and Ben Nicholson figure among the recorded biographical reference points.
