Julia Ris was an artist whose practice encompassed painting, printmaking, illustration and the teaching of drawing. She also designed costumes and devoted herself to studies of nature as well as figurative works. From 1925 onwards, her work evolved towards abstraction, incorporating reliefs into her artistic practice.
Her oeuvre testifies to a diversity of techniques and styles, reflecting the developments of her time.
