Joseph Hurter
Born in 1819.
Died in 1873.
Joseph Hurter is recognised for his work as a wood engraver and sculptor. He worked in Lucerne between 1840 and 1856, during which period he specialised in wood engraving for calendar images. His work attests to a high level of craftsmanship in the field of xylography, although little information survives about the extent of his production and his impact on the artistic milieu of his time.
