Johannes Rotach

Born in 1892.

Died in 1981.

Johannes Rotach is recognised for his work as a Senntummaler from Appenzell. His oeuvre, comprising approximately ten works dated up to 1930, is characterised by a poster-like simplification of human figures, animals, buildings and landscapes. This stylistic approach reflects a search for a pared-down form of visual expression in which the elements are reduced to their essence while retaining a strong regional identity.
