Johann Rudolf Bys
Born in 1662.
Died in 1738.
Johann Rudolf Bys was a painter and interior architect from Solothurn. He practised his art as a court painter in several European cities, notably Prague, Vienna, Würzburg and Pommersfelden. Bys is also recognised as the founder of an autonomous tradition of still-life painting in Bohemia, thereby leaving his mark on the artistic landscape of his time.
His œuvre attests to a particular sensitivity to composition and the representation of objects, although the precise details of his artistic production remain partially obscure.
