Johann Melchior Bürgisser

Born in 1656.

Died in 1667.

Johann Melchior Bürgisser was a painter whose activity is documented in Solothurn, where he became a member of the Lukasgilde in the same year. His most notable work appears to have been the decoration of the Konventsaal in Rheinau Monastery, carried out in 1667. Although brief, his career bears witness to an involvement in the visual arts in seventeenth-century Switzerland.

Details of his life and work nevertheless remain limited, leaving questions about his career and his influence in the artistic milieu of his time.
