Johann Jakob Merz
Born in 1753.

Johann Jakob Merz was a portraitist from Herisau. His artistic activity is chiefly documented by works executed in 1753 and 1754, when he had the opportunity to paint portraits of the Duke of Cumberland as well as members of the English royal family. Merz disappeared in 1765, leaving a fleeting yet significant mark on eighteenth-century portraiture.
