Jean-François-André Duval
Born in 1776.
Died in 1854.
Jean-François-André Duval was a court jeweller in Saint Petersburg, where he succeeded his father, Louis-David Duval. On his return to Geneva, he devoted himself to landscape painting, while also establishing himself as an art collector and statesman. He belonged to the Duval family of artists, being the son-in-law of Wolfgang-Adam Töpffer and the father of Étienne Duval, a fact that attests to a notable artistic heritage.
The details of his career and work remain partly obscure.
