Home Swiss artists Hermann Naef Swiss Art Gallery · St-Prex Hermann Naef ◇ Born in 1892.
◇ Died in 1964.
Hermann Naef is recognised for his work as an Appenzeller Senntummaler, a form of folk art from the Appenzell region. At the same time, he worked as a farmer. His principal body of work, produced before 1930, bears witness to an artistic commitment rooted in local traditions, although the precise details of his creations remain to be explored.
The duality of his life, between agriculture and art, highlights a profound connection with his surroundings and his culture.
