Henry Butty
Born in 1962.
Henry Butty has developed a painterly practice in which broad, often monochrome surfaces serve as a ground for a coloured polygon suggesting a “paper house”.
Against these cool grounds, the polygon introduces, according to the source, an inner space of peace and warmth, presented as a “house to inhabit poetically”.
Following work in graphic design and illustration, he now works as a painter and leads a drawing workshop.
In 2023, together with Giovanna Butty, he presented the joint exhibition “Incidences” at the Musée du Papier peint, Château de Mézières, on view from July to 4 November 2023.
According to the notice, the exhibition was conceived so that the works created would enter into dialogue with the wallpapers and the atmosphere of the château.
Among the documented pieces is a work dated 2023 and captioned “Sans titre”, mixed media, signed Henry Butty.
