Gaston Faravel distinguished himself as a painter, decorator and scenographer. His œuvre encompasses portraits, still lifes and landscapes. He also practised mural painting and reverse-glass painting.
Faravel was a pupil of René Auberjonois, which undoubtedly influenced the course of his artistic career.
