Gerhard Neswadba
Born in Ober-Ramstadt (Germany) in 1941.
German, active in Austria · Traditional figurative painting · landscapes and floral still lifes following an abstract early phase.
G. Neswadba, identified as Gerhard Neswadba, trained as a painter and graphic artist and also worked in commercial design. His career developed primarily in Austria, first within the Viennese art world and later in the province of Salzburg, while maintaining an exhibition presence across several European countries.
His first documented international group exhibition was held in Stockholm in 1968. Exhibitions followed in Gothenburg and Copenhagen in 1969, and in Hamburg, Göppingen and Vienna in 1970. A substantial Vienna presentation in 1971 brought together more than sixty paintings, collages, watercolours and graphic works; the following year he received a grant from the Austrian Ministry of Education and Art.
His early work is described as abstract and was supported by public acquisitions attributed to the Albertina’s graphic collection, the Senate of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg and the Austrian Ministry of Education and Art. Neswadba subsequently turned towards a traditional figurative language grounded in colour harmony, assured drawing and clearly constructed forms.
Austrian and European landscapes, meadows, gardens and floral still lifes became central subjects in his mature production. In his bouquets, varied blossoms, dense foliage and luminous contrasts are arranged into compositions that are decorative yet carefully structured. The three floral oils presented by Swiss Art Gallery belong naturally within this body of work.
The works by Gerhard Neswadba presented by Swiss Art Gallery extend this artistic journey and take their place naturally within this corpus.
