Friedrich Salathé

Born in 1793.

Died in 1858.

Friedrich Salathé was a recognised Swiss artist known for his work as a draughtsman and landscape painter, as well as for his skill in printmaking. He was a pupil of Peter Birmann, which undoubtedly had an influence on his artistic approach. Salathé spent a significant part of his career in Rome between 1815 and 1821, before settling in Paris from 1823 onwards, where he continued his artistic activity.

The details of his oeuvre and his impact on the artistic milieu of his time remain partly obscure.
