Frédéric Martens was an engraver and draughtsman from Saxony. His artistic output includes a series of views of Lausanne, produced between 1850 and 1855, which attests to his interest in representing the city. Martens also played a role in introducing daguerreotypy to Lausanne, thus marking an important stage in the development of photography in the region.
The details of his career and influence remain only partially documented, leaving questions about his overall impact on the artistic field.
