Franz Thaddäus Menteler the Elder was an artist whose activity extended to painting and glasswork. He pursued studies in Augsburg and Vienna before becoming a member of the Lukasbruderschaft of Zug from 1727 onwards. He was also the father of Franz Thaddäus Menteler the Younger.
Details concerning his oeuvre and artistic impact remain partly uncertain.
