Franz Grob
Born in 1928.
The documents consulted present Franz Grob in a dual capacity, combining ecclesiastical work and popular education: in 1961 he is mentioned as a kaplan serving at the presbytery in Herxheim («Kaplan in Herxheim»), and, according to the Museum Herxheim file, he was subsequently identified as a Pfarrer and as the person in charge of the «Arbeiterbildungstätte» in Jockgrim, in connection with the Christliche Arbeiterjugend (CAJ). The same source indicates a concrete role in social mediation and individual support: Franz Grob helped Ernest Gustin first to find accommodation and then employment in Herxheim, where Gustin worked as a Bauzeichner for the architect Erich Weiller.
Moreover, the assembled documents include a description of the «Moving Artists» project: according to the article, this project gave more than 130 performances at small and large events; at a typical event, visitors could try out the collective’s equipment (unicycle, wheel, hand truck), while the young artists offered advice and demonstrations to the public, attesting to a participatory and educational dimension.
