Home Swiss artists Eugène Girardet Swiss Art Gallery · St-Prex Eugène Girardet ◇ Born in 1853.
◇ Died in 1907.
Eugène Girardet was a notable painter and printmaker, recognised for his Oriental genre scenes. A pupil of Jean-Léon Gérôme, he successfully situated himself within an influential artistic tradition. He came from a family of artists and was the son of Paul Girardet, attesting to a significant artistic heritage.
Although less well known, his work deserves to be rediscovered in the context of nineteenth-century Orientalist art.
