Etienne Duval
Born in 1824.
Died in 1914.
Etienne Duval (1824–1914) is documented as a landscape painter. He received his artistic training from his uncle Rodolphe Duval and from Alexandre Calame. In 1844–1845, he made a first journey to Italy in the company of Alexandre Calame.
A member of the Duval family, he was the son of Jean‑François‑André Duval. The SIKART entry lists him under identifier 4023021.
He appears on Wikipedia’s ‘List of Orientalist artists’ page (entry stating ‘Etienne Duval (French, 1824–1914)’). Alongside the reference sources, he also appears in the contemporary commercial market (mentioned on the website of the Galerie des Annonciades, under the heading ‘Nos nouveautés’).
The information assembled makes it possible to situate his training, several chronological stages and the nature of his artistic activity (landscape painting), without claiming to be exhaustive in view of the gaps noted by SIKART.
