Emanuel Bock der Ältere
Born in 1584.
Died in 1619.
Emanuel Bock the Elder was a painter whose oeuvre attests to notable activity at the beginning of the seventeenth century. The son of Hans Bock the Elder, he participated in 1600 in the fresco cycle depicting the life of the Virgin for the church of St. Blasien. Between 1608 and 1611, he contributed to the paintings in Basel’s Rathaus, and in 1619 he was involved in the execution of an equestrian portrait for the Rheintor.
In 1612, he became a member of the Himmelzunft confraternity, and from 1614 to 1616 he undertook an independent renovation of the Prediger Totentanz in Basel.
