Elisabeth Fux Mattig

Born in 1972.

Elisabeth Fux Mattig has developed a practice centred on large, uncut rolls of canvas, a cycle designated «Gaia», of which seven rolls have been produced to date.

She works on these rolls in the studio without cutting them beforehand, so that the scale of the material often prevents her from gaining an overall view during the creative process.

Her artistic training includes studies at the École des Beaux Arts du Valais and at the Hochschule für Gestaltung Basel. She lives and works in Brig (Valais), from where part of her exhibition and performance activity unfolds.

Her recent presentations include Regionale Wallis 2023 at Galerie zur Matze in Brig (VS), where she is listed for 2023. The source also indicates an announced participation in the International Contemporary Art Medail Exhibition in Florence (Italy) in 2023. Her work appears in the 2024 programme «Folgelandschaft» at UNTERGESCHOSS 14 in Leipzig.

An exhibition entitled «Unter dem Schnee» in Saas-Fee (VS) is mentioned for 2024.

In 2022, she staged an outdoor performance as part of the project «Trauerrand»; images of this action formed part of her exhibition. In the same year, she collaborated with Valeria Alves da Florencia on a performance at the Simplon Pass as part of a project related to mourning, entitled «The timing of loss».

Among the references to collections and deposits is the work «Jahreskreis», recorded in 2018 at Wohnheim Fux Campagna in Visp. In 2022, the images «Landschaft 2» and «Landschaft 6» were reported at Artothek Wallis (VS). A photograph entitled «Komposition mit Skizzenbüchern» was deposited at Spital Oberwallis (VS) in 2024.
