Charles Hindenlang
Charles Hindenlang is presented as a Swiss artist active in Basel, with the life dates 1894–1960 given according to the Swiss Poster Art entry; his name also appears in an index of Swiss painters and in an imported SIKART entry.
The sources document primarily his activity as a poster artist: the Swiss Poster Art collection preserves six posters dated to the 1940s–1950s, executed mainly in colour lithography for exhibitions in Basel and for tourism.
Among the works listed are pieces for Kunsthalle Basel, notably a jubilee poster from 1946 and a poster entitled «Ausstellung Basler Künstler», dated 1958. These attest to a presence in Basel’s post-war cultural life.
The entry describes the poster «Jubiläums‑Ausstellung Kunsthalle Basel» (1946), noting the use of warm colours and the depiction of a mischievous figure interacting with a stylised horse; this description is used here as a visual document.
Another documented poster is a tourism-related work for the Gotthardbahn, dated 1952 in the same collection entry.
Although the SIKART entry records the name as that of a painter, the surviving works and their lithographic technique indicate that the known part of his activity in practice belongs to the field of printed posters.
