Charles-Louis Guigon
Born in 1807.
Died in 1882.
Charles‑Louis Guigon (1807–1882) is identified by the sources as a painter from Geneva. He is documented as a miniaturist and as an artist who produced views and mountain landscapes—particularly of the Bernese Oberland, Savoy and Valais—working in watercolour, engraving and lithography.
He was a pupil of François‑Gédéon Reverdin at the Geneva School of Drawing. According to the gallery notice, he subsequently completed his training in Paris under Louis‑Victor Godin (1827–1828). The same notice records that he exhibited in Geneva from 1826 to 1881 and took part in an exhibition in Paris in 1840.
Alongside his artistic practice, he gave private lessons and, from 1843, ran a “class for ladies”. He is mentioned as a member of the Société des arts de Genève.
The subjects attested in the dossier emphasise the topographical and landscape representation of the Alps and neighbouring regions, as well as miniature painting. The gallery notice states that works by Guigon are held at the Musée départemental de l’Oise (Beauvais) and the Musée d’Art et d’Histoire de Genève. The SIKART entry (identifier 4023061) repeats the artist’s identification and the dates 1807–1882, providing an additional bibliographical point of reference.
