Carlos Schwabe was an artist of German origin who acquired Genevan citizenship in 1888. His oeuvre is distinguished by his work as a painter, draughtsman and illustrator, primarily in Paris. Schwabe is recognised as an important symbol of the Symbolist movement and also established himself as a precursor of Art Nouveau, reflecting an artistic sensibility that marked his era.
Although his influence is notable, certain aspects of his career remain uncertain.
