Bernhard Hoetger was a versatile artist who worked as a sculptor, graphic artist, architect, craftsman and painter. He is particularly known for having created, around 1912–1913, four façade figures for the Volkshaus in Bern. His stays in Switzerland, which took place between 1936 and 1937 and then from 1946 to 1949, attest to a significant connection with the country, although the details of his influence during this period remain uncertain.
