Beni Bischof
Born in 1976.
Beni Bischof lives and works in St. Gallen. He came to prominence through a series of watercolours—more than 300 works produced after repeatedly watching the film Rambo—and these works resulted in an artist’s book entitled Rambo, published by Nieves on 1 July 2016 (EAN 9783905999730). The edition cited for Rambo is described as comprising 260 pages.
Alongside his watercolours, he has expanded his formal vocabulary to include sculpture, painting and installations. He frequently works with everyday objects, which he reworks and reinforces with plaster and paint, thereby lending material coherence to pieces arising from reuse. His practice also encompasses collage and the reworking of appropriated images from fashion magazines, trivial texts and LP covers, which he repaints or alters through digital or mechanical processes.
This trajectory has received local recognition: Beni Bischof was the 2015 recipient of the Manor Cultural Prize at the St. Gallen Museum of Art. His body of work outlines a practice grounded in gestures of recomposition and assemblage, spanning repaired objects, reworked images and sculptural configurations.
