Balthasar Han
Born in 1505.
Died in 1578.
Balthasar Han was a glass artist based in Basel, recognised for his work in the tradition of Hans Holbein. The son of Ludwig and brother of Matthäus, he was admitted in 1529 to Basel’s craftsmen’s guild, the Himmelzunft. Han also worked as a master with Niklaus Manuel the Younger, thereby contributing to the training of the next generation of artists.
His oeuvre bears witness to a distinctive mastery of the art of stained glass, although the specific details of his works remain uncertain.
