Augustin Rebetez
Born in 1986.
Augustin Rebetez is an artist whose work is characterised by a distinctive formal language that creates a dreamlike and fantastical universe inhabited by hybrid characters and forms.
His artistic practice is resolutely transmedia and transdisciplinary, incorporating a range of media such as photography, painting, sculpture, video and installation, while sometimes extending to theatre, music, dance and circus.
Rebetez draws inspiration from popular and spiritual traditions and rites, which he revisits by creating an iconographic repertoire composed of polymorphous figures and fictional environments oscillating between dream and nightmare.
Since 2013, he has moved away from a documentary approach in order to focus on staging his fantastical creatures in his works, favouring a raw aesthetic and simple forms.
He studied photography at the École de photographie de Vevey between 2005 and 2009 and has since taken part in numerous solo and group exhibitions.
Rebetez has received several awards, including the Kiefer Hablitzel Prize in 2012 and the Grand Prix Images Vevey in 2013.
His work « Throw Your Shadows » is an immersive installation that explores dreamlike and esoteric themes, using stop-motion techniques to create a dialogue between different cultures and periods.
